WHAT IS SPARKLING TEA?

Founded in 2017, REAL is a range of naturally non alcoholic fermented Sparkling teas, produced using the finest quality loose-leaf teas and served in place of wines and Champagnes at some of the UK’s best hotels, restaurants and bars.

WHAT DOES SPARKLING TEA TASTE LIKE?

Our Royal Flush is brewed from a First Flush Darjeeling tea. It is richly fragrant and creates a brew that is fresh and floral. We add nothing, but the tea alone develops notes of rhubarb, white peach and a touch of blackcurrant. The fruit and spice flavours round out the acids to make it soft and delicate.

Our Dry Dragon is light and citrusy with notes of sweet lemons and grapefruit, but with a delicate leafy undertone. Brewed from a Dragonwell Chinese green tea, it is dry and fresh – a perfect light summer Sparkling tea to be drunk at any time of day.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SPARKLING TEA AND KOMBUCHA?

We ferment tea in a non alcoholic fermentation process to make our drinks, the standard name for which is kombucha – a traditional and ancient drink made by fermenting sugar, live cultures and tea over a series of weeks. Our process produces a complexity of flavours one would find in some of the best wines and Champagnes, the range of which is therefore consumed as a sparkling wine alternative opposed to a kombucha (which on the contrary is often drunk as a flavoured soft drink or for ‘gut health’).

HOW IS SPARKLING TEA MADE?

Referring to traditional techniques whilst utilising innovative processes in the art and science of non alcoholic fermentation unique to the brand, REAL’s drinks are produced using live cultures, sugar, water and exquisite loose-leaf teas. Most of the sugar is consumed in the fermentation process producing a range of Sparkling teas full of flavour and complexity. 

HOW LONG DOES A BOTTLE OF REAL LAST?

On receipt of your drinks, store them in a cool place (ideally 20ºc or lower). Transfer them to refrigeration a day or so before consuming, so that you can enjoy them at the ideal temperatures. Consume by the best before date that you’ll find printed on your bottle.

WHAT INGREDIENTS DO YOU USE?

In order to create the wide range of exquisite flavours we only use tea, sugar and our proprietary live cultures. We add nothing else. We never adulterate with flavourings or juices. To achieve our great flavours we have to use the highest quality and most characterful teas, and we have to control our process with a level of knowledge and precision known only in the best wine making or beer brewing processes. 

HOW MANY CALORIES ARE THERE IN A GLASS?

There’s 15 calories/100ml of REAL meaning that an average Champagne flute contains around 19 calories (based on 125ml serve). Not bad when compared to a glass of white wine which is around 100 calories.

CAN I DRINK REAL IF I'M PREGNANT?

REAL sparkling teas are naturally fermented and lightly filtered but as such remains a live product and as such contains live bacteria and yeast. However, this is nonpathogenic and generally a healthy addition to a balanced diet. We maintain exceptionally high standards of hygiene and testing to ensure this is the case. There is also a small remnant of alcohol, in the region of 0.5%.

We know many pregnant mothers-to-be that drink REAL as a refined non alcoholic alternative to sparkling wines, but we would always suggest you check with your doctor if this is of concern to you.

DOES SPARKLING TEA CONTAIN ALCOHOL?

Fermented tea contains a trace of alcohol as a byproduct of the fermentation process, but the amount is so small that it is does not build up in your bloodstream, and is therefore officially considered non-alcoholic. We are talking around 0.5%, which is the same as you would find in many non-alcoholic beers. This is why you’ll find us alongside the non-alcoholic beers and wines in supermarkets. 

DOES SPARKLING TEA CONTAIN CAFFEINE?

At REAL, we brew with a strength of tea that is far below the level you’d have in a standard cup of tea. We also believe that some of the caffeine is dissipated in the fermentation process. However, as it is a tea-based product, allergies and sensitivities should be taken into consideration at your discretion.
